The 72 Hour Rule

Here is a little story behind this post. Recently I sent an email to follow up on an order.

I placed an order online. Do you buy online?

Check out this Video – She does not want to get ripped off online. LOL!

Okay back to the story. I questioned the amount of the shipping cost on an item that was being delivered from a local address – as it was being charged at International Shipping rates.

Fair? I mean does anyone like shipping costs?

It did not stop me from buying – but it might stop others.

Not a big deal, merely a simple inquiry.

It’s 4 days after the email was sent and I do not yet have a reply.

Okay I send another email – friendly. Maybe the email was missed – no problem.

However if your business depends on people buying online and email communication, this could cost you a few customers.

The 72-Hour Rule. 72 hours – what’s the big deal about 72 hours?

Well people forget. When we postpone things for longer than 72 hours it is very likely we will not do it at all. Emails, Phone Calls, Errands, To Do Lists – The Works.

It’s so big that there is a couples therapy book about it. Fundamental Communication Tools.

It is also the Golden Rule for follow up and contact after events. You meet someone and want to get to know them better. It’s possible that they could use the service you have to offer. If you are not in their “Line of Vision” and setting up a call or coffee meeting within the 72 hours – guaranteed what they are looking for, is going to find another provider.

Do you have a system for communication that takes into account The 72-Hour Rule?

How about this Senario: I sign up for a program online. I get an invoice by email – but I do not get an email acknowledging that I signed up for the program with details about when the program is going to start or how I can sign on and self start.

Would you have a few questions?

I do! Natural Right.

Well – I might just forget that I signed up – if you wait more than 72 hours to let me know the details, it’s likely I’ve found something else to do.

Oh and if you have a Money Back Guarantee – chances are – I’m gonna want my money back.

How important is The 72-Hour Rule?

Are you connecting?

Are you everywhere online?
Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+

Does it Look like this?
